Wolves approach Pereira’s appointment

Wolves are expected to confirm the appointment of Vitor Pereira as their new coach later today.

The Portuguese will replace Gary O’Neil, who was sacked after Saturday’s home defeat to Ipswich left Wolves second from bottom of the Premier League after winning just two games this season.

Wolves and Pereira’s current club Al Shabab have reportedly agreed a compensation package that will see the 56-year-old take over at Molineux ahead of Sunday’s trip to the relegation rivals Leicester City.

Pereira enjoyed a nomadic stint in leadership, spending spells in his homeland as well as in Saudi Arabia, Greece, Turkey, Germany, China and Brazil.

The highlight of his managerial career was a two-year spell in charge of Porto, leading them to back-to-back Primeira Liga titles.

He also won championships with Olympiacos and Shanghai SIPG.

Pereira will have a tough job on his hands to try and push Wolves away from danger, however.

The club may also have to do without star Matheus Cunha for a period of time after he was charged with misconduct by the Football Association this morning.

The Brazil striker, Wolves’ top scorer with eight Premier League goals this season, was involved in a brawl after the game against Ipswich, clashing with a member of the opposition’s security staff .
