Wrexham manager Phil Parkinson says that his side will not be afraid of the league when they return to a second level for the first time in 43 years on Saturday.
Hollywood’s story by actors Rob Mcelhenney and Ryan Reynolds took his place in 2020 saw the club promoted from the national league for the championship in just three years.
The club starts their campaign away in Southampton-which were in the Premier League last season.
“I don’t want to be afraid,” Parkinson said about the tournament.
“I want to get into every game ready to be positive. We have always been at our best when we have played positively. We will go into every game with that mindset and see where we take.”
Parkinson knows the second layer well from the periods with Bolton, Charlton and Hull.
Wrexham have signed known names such as Conor Coady, Kieffer Moore and Josh Windass this summer as their revolution continues.
“I think it’s a very good championship,” Parkinson said. “Every game feels like a great atmosphere of a great match.
“You can climb on a good run, but it may be quick on a bad run and can change quickly. Over the years the division is so tight, right by the end of the season. Last season so many teams have been staying for the play-offs.
“It is very tight. If we love, which will inevitably happen, let’s make sure we do not overdo it as staff, we will collect and work towards the next. That is the mentality we had last year, we had the disadvantages along the way, people doubt us.
“People think of three promotions that we have had praise all the time and plaudits, but we have had periods where people begin to doubt me as a manager, doubt the players. You go through these periods and there is always a bigger picture to look at.”
