The Lions-Falcons-Falcons Suspended Pre-Falcons game following Morice Norris injury

Detroit Lions’s NFL preseason with the Atlanta Falcons came at a sudden and emotional end on Friday night after security Morice Norris was taken from the pitch in an ambulance after a serious injury.

The incident occurred with 14:50 left in the fourth quarter at Mercedes-Benz Stadium, as Norris tried to lower the Falcons Rookie that runs back Nathan Carter.

The 24-year-old defender went to the turf and remained there as medical staff quickly ran for his help.

Norris received a field treatment for about 20 minutes before being placed on a stretcher and carefully loaded in an ambulance. He was shipped to Atlanta Grady Memorial Hospital for further evaluation.

The Lions later confirmed that Norris was in a stable condition and had a “sensation and movement in all his extremities,” which provided a measure of relief for his teammates and fans.

At the time of injury, Detroit had an advantage of 17-10. With 6:31 remaining, Lions Campbell’s leading coach and Falcons lead coach Raheem Morris mutually agreed to complete the contest early.

“Raheem is the ultimate act of the class,” Campbell said. “We agreed that you just didn’t feel the right thing to finish that game. It’s an eye opener. It reaches a little different and puts things in perspective. The silver plating is the brotherhood-seeing both teams come together and think about another player means a lot.”

The decision was welcomed with the support from the players on both side. Lions quarterback Kyle Allen said it was clear from the moment the trainers called for a stretcher that the situation was serious.

“You usually see a couple of trainers there. It’s never good when they get the stretchers,” Allen said.

“We have just begun to pray for him and hope for the better. When he is taking that length and there are many people around him, you only know that it is not good to keep playing.”

The broad recipient of the Falcons Casey Washington was given those feelings. “That’s someone’s life, and that’s bigger than football,” he said.

The Lions are expected to provide further updates on Norris’s condition in the coming days as they prepare for their next preseason issue.
