Spurs ‘don’t change the way they play’, says record-breaking Salah

Mohamed Salah compared Liverpool’s win at Tottenham to Manchester City’s loss to Spurs after scoring twice on Sunday to set a new Premier League record.

The Reds moved four points clear at the top of the table by winning 6-3 with the help of two goals and two assists from Salah, who is the first player in Premier League history to reach 10 goals and 10 assists by Christmas.

The result was the latest entertaining game involving 11th-placed Tottenham, with manager Ange Postecoglou’s brand of risk-taking attacking football producing a 4-0 win against City on the 23rd November.

Salah: Spurs “have a way of playing”

“We expect the way they played: they open up the game and enjoy the football,” Salah told Sky Sports, speaking after his 26th direct involvement of the season – nine ahead of nearest rival Cole Palmer, of Chelsea.

“You have to always be in the log (because it’s really tough physically and mentally. They have the way they play and they change

“City (faced them) and struggled, and so did some other teams. I’m really happy that we won because they play a very intense game.”

Liverpool “need to improve defensively”

Salah was less than impressed with Liverpool’s defense after they conceded more than one goal for the third game in their last five.

They have now conceded 16 goals in 16 league matches and are level with Arsenal who are in third place for the fewest goals against, although the Gunners have played a game more.

“Defensively, we have to improve as a team,” Salah warned. “Conceding three goals is quite difficult. (Defender) Virgil (van Dijk) will speak better than me about this. The result is quite good and we hope to keep going.”

Mo Salah’s stats: 229 Liverpool goals

Salah’s second goal, which came eight minutes into the second half, moved the Egypt icon ahead of Billy Liddell as Liverpool’s fourth all-time top scorer.

He looks likely to score the 13 goals needed to overtake Gordon Hodgson in third place this season, but his prospects of stealing the 57 needed to overtake Roger Hunt’s tally depend from whether to extend his contract before it expires at the end of the campaign.

Ian Rush is 117 goals ahead of Salah, so the 32-year-old may need to stay at Anfield for another five years to match the Welsh legend’s record of 346, if he averages ‘ 25 last season and remains good and first. -player of choice.
