Manchester United’s new signing Senne Lammens faced some doubt from his own family about his decision to move to Old Trafford, with his brother suggesting Galatasaray may be the best choice.
The 21-year-old goalkeeper has completed a change of deadline for United to € 21 million plus add-ons. But his eldest brother Tom Lammens-who plays for the Belgian low league side Borsbeek-admitted he was not convinced of the transfer.
“There is a lot of quality, you play for the trophies there (in Galatasaray), and Senne maybe you can immediately make his mark in the Champions League,” Tom told Belgian Nieuwsblad.
“Initially I was skeptical about a move to United, as many players there already gave up pressure and could not reach their full potential.”
Ruben Amorim’s leading coach left Lammens on the bench for last weekend Manchester Derby, instead of starting Altay Bayindir in the 3-0 defeat against Manchester City.
Despite his reserves, Tom acknowledged that the final choice was his brother: “Finally, it was Senne who had to make the decision.
“United gave him the best sentiment. Partly because Tony Coton, United’s goal scout, had been following him for almost a year and was convinced of his qualities.
“It would also be good if the club could return to its previous glory and if Senne could contribute to it.”
The Manchester United season started badly, with only one win since their opening of four fixtures. They will look to recover back when they take on Chelsea this Saturday.
