Matthew Gaudreau and his wife Madeline Gaudreauthey had been together for almost 15 years—and married for three—before her untimely death.

“The best 14 years of my life 🤍 I will cherish those years and you for the rest of my life,” Madeline wrote via Instagram After her husband and her brother in September 2024, Johnny Gaudreau, they were both killed.

On August 30, Matthew and his older brother, NHL player Johnny, were hit by a vehicle while riding their bikes in New Jersey. They were 29 and 31, respectively. The siblings were in town to act as his sister’s groomsmen Katiethe wedding of

Matthew and Johnny were killed on August 29 while riding their bikes in Oldmans Township, New Jersey. We confirmed that he was the man driving the vehicle that hit the siblings suspected of being drunk. The driver was arrested and charged with manslaughter after the crash.

They are Johnny and Matthew his parents survived him, Guy and janeand Katie and sisters Kristen. Also, Johnny, who played for the Columbus Blue Jackets, left behind his wife, Meredithand their two childrenNoah and Johnny Jr.

Matthew, who played hockey in college and then in the minor leagues, is survived by his wife and unborn child.

“It was always Matty and John. I can’t put into words the bond these two had and right now I don’t have the strength. They were each other’s biggest cheerleaders,” Madeline He wrote via an Instagram tribute about his late spouse and his brother. “Matt looked up to John in so many ways, but most importantly he was a father to Noa and Johnny. I find extreme comfort in knowing that they are together, just like they always were. I know they are still up there messing with each other and their families will continue to watch over them.”

Madeline shared a message to her sister-in-law Meredith about the “extreme heartbreak and incredible bond” after her husband’s death.

“Boys could not have chosen a stronger woman (sic) as a wife and mother of their children. We’ll take each other through all the seasons… just like boys would with each other,” he continued. “We were blessed with children… through them we will always have a part of them with us forever. I love you my beautiful husband, I love you John, I love you Meredith, I love you Noa, I love you Johnny and I love you baby Tripp.
