Judge Rejects Trump’s $ 15 Billion Case against New York Times

An American Federal Judge has overturned Donald Trump’s slander case of $ 15 billion against the New York Times, citing problems with its content.

US District Judge Stephen Maryde in his decision on Friday said Trump had violated a federal rule requiring candidates to outline in a “short and clear statement” why they deserve relief from the court.

The legal appeal, the judge said, is not a “protected platform to rage against an opponent.” He gave Trump 28 days to file a modified complaint.

Trump has signaled that he will sue the New York Times earlier this week in a Truth Social post, claiming that the newspaper is “allowed to lie freely, to blur me and to slander me too long.”

The New York Times responded to the case, saying that “no merit”.

“He lacks any legal legal claims and instead is an attempt to suffocate and discourage independent reporting,” the newspaper statement said earlier this week.

In his order on Friday, Judge Meride stated that the case brought by Trump was “repetitive” and “unnecessary”.

The 85-page case was brought to the Tampa Federal Court earlier this week. He also names Penguin Random House LLC – which published a book by Times reporters last year – and accuses the newspaper of serving as a “mouthpiece” for Democrats.

Judge Meride writes in his decision that even if Trump’s allegations are proven to be true and even if the case was interpreted in a “generous and condescending” manner, the manner in which it was written, violates the rules of the court and “categorically incorrect and inadmissible”.

Neither President Trump nor his lawyers have yet responded to Judge Meride’s decision.
