Guiu hat-trick helps 100% Blues top league

Chelsea confirmed their dominance in the Championship Conference as they finished top of the league stage after another emphatic home win against Shamrock Rovers.

Rovers started the day in sixth place but had no answer to the quality of Enzo Maresca’s shadow side, as striker Marc Guiu helped himself to a hat-trick in the first half.

The Irish team threatened early on as Johnny Kenny failed to get on the end of a dangerous cross and Guiu quickly punished him by making the most of a defensive error to score.

The visitors were briefly level when Markus Poom – son of former Derby, Sunderland and Arsenal Mart goalkeeper – headed in from the crowd.

But another error allowed Guiu to slot in to put Chelsea back in front and Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall all but sealed victory with a clinical finish.

Guiu headed well from Noni Madueke’s cross while after the break Marc Cucurella entered the area and finished like a central striker.

Chelsea will now play in the final on March 16 while Rovers – despite the big loss – have a place in the play-off round in February.

More to follow.
