Gardners Candies is recalling some Cappuccino Meltaway bars because their packaging lacks a nut disclaimer.
The recalled 1.25-ounce candies “may contain undeclared nuts (cashews),” the Pennsylvania-based company said in a statement released Friday by the FDA.
The recall comes “after it was discovered that the nut-containing product was distributed in packaging that did not disclose the presence of nuts,” Gardners Candies said in a statement.

People allergic to or highly sensitive to nuts “are at risk of a serious or life-threatening allergic reaction” if they eat the recalled Cappuccino Meltaway bars, the notice said.
Nut allergies are “among the most common food allergies in both children and adults,” according to the Food Allergy Research and Education organization.
The affected Gardners Candies product has not caused any illnesses to date, the recall notice said.

Gardners Candies said consumers who purchased the recalled Cappuccino Meltaway or Meltaway Treat Boxes should contact them for a replacement.
They were sold in stores and by mail across the country starting in September, the recall notice said.
The FDA said the company attributed the problem to a “temporary breakdown in the company’s manufacturing and packaging processes.” It has halted production of Cappuccino Meltaway Bars “until the company is satisfied that the problem has been corrected,” according to the notice.
Gardners Candy dates from the late 1800s. It has stores in multiple cities in Pennsylvania and also sells its confections at more than 100 retailers in three states, according to its website.
