Emma Raducanu added former Rafael Nadal coach Francis Roig to her team on a full-time basis before this month’s US Open, Live on Sky Sports–
The 2021 Champion in the Flush Meadows has worked with British coach Mark Petchey on an informal basis since March, enjoying a positive run of results.
However, Petchey’s TV commitments meant that he could not always become Raducanu’s full-time coach and after a trial with Roig after Wimbledon, the 22-year-old will start working with him at the Cincinnati Open this week after being contracted by the end of 2025.
Raducanu has struggled to stay with a coach in recent years until her part-time work with Petchey has started paying dividends earlier this season.
Quarters of the 1000 WTA final at Miami Open in March was followed by a 16-year run in the Italian Open before doing the last eight in the first women’s championship at the Queen’s Club.
Aryna Sabalenka showed too strong for Raducanu in the three round in Wimbledon, but this was supported by a semi-finals at the Open Cites in Washington as the British No. 1-ranked 33rd in the world at the moment-targets that are sown in the US Open later this month.
Spanish coach Roig worked with Nadal along with Uncle Toni of Nadal for the majority of the 22-time career Grand Slam Champion and was more recently part of Matteo Berrettini’s bed staff.
