Dowman of Arsenal “incredible” – and gyokeres “will be 100%”

Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta says 15-year-old Max Dowman “deserves to have chances” after the midfielder re-attacks his claims to play in the Premier League with an impressive Mado against Villarreal.

England Under-17 International Dowman has repeatedly impacted a substitute during the pre-season, which was close to scoring on several occasions and won the second penalty in three games after replacing Bukayo Saka in the 63rd minute 3-2 defeat at home to the Spanish side.

“He continues to impress, without a doubt,” Arteta said. “The impact he has had on the game again, the efficiency he shows in every attack and action-is incredible.

“He deserves to have chances and if he continues like this, let’s see what happens.”

Max Dowman: Arsenal’s Premier League debutant?

Dowman was shining during arsenal 1-0 win over Milan And they tested Newcastle goalkeepers Nick Pope and John Ruddy before being pushed by Joelinton to earn Martin Odegaard’s 86-minute decisive kick against the Magpies.

He also scored a penalty in the shooting against Milan and showed feet too quickly for Villarreal’s Pau Navarreal, who won a kick on the spot converted by Odegaard.

“It’s coming to the point where it will be impossible to leave him out of the match squad,” former Arsenal defender Adrian Clarke told Arsenal official Channel after their first home.

“He’ll have to be involved in the bank. He delivered-he won the penalty with a beautiful cruyff blow. It’s so positive and quick.”

Arteta: Dowman ‘Trust’ from the team

Arteta said Dowman will “have a break” over the next “days”. “He had no holidays really,” explained the Spaniard, who was comparing Dowman to 18-year-old Ethan Nwaneri’s advance.

“The (player) reaction is very clear. They have the ball and give it to him. He tells you how much they trust him and the relationship he is building on the team.

“There is nothing better than that confidence they show (in him) to make things and the constant connection they have with him.

“Even last year when he was training with us, he was doing this kind of thing in training. Now doing it in the game consistently.

“In the three or four games he played, he managed to impact and have great moments.”

Dowman, who already has age records for the youngest Premier League 2 player and the UEFA youth league scorer, will be Arsenal’s second largest newcomer after Nwaneri if he has the first team before mid-March.

Viktor Gyokeres: Arsenal Building Fitness

Arteta first dropped Viktor Gyokeres, whose Arsenal Hope will respond to their need for a prolific striker after joining the sport in July for a fee that could go up to £ 64 million.

The 27-year-old had the first quiet section but went well to test Villarreal’s starting goalkeeper, Luiz Junior, from a tight angle after being played by Mikel Merino shortly before the international Sweden was replaced.

“He will be 100% or more because he is so ready and confident that he can deliver positively,” predicted Arteta, who discusses how gyokeres is adapting “mentally” and “understand what he needs to do”.

“At his fitness level, I think he didn’t really train with (a) a team for two months, so he has now done five or six sessions.”

Arsenal host Athletic Bilbao on Saturday (5:00 pm BST / 12:00 et / 09:00 et), when Arteta said Gyokeres “will take another step and be in a better condition.”

Gyokeres “did not get service” from the arsenal

Clarke said he “felt a little” for gyokeres because of Arsenal’s familiar problems with the creation of chances.

“He worked hard and pressed hard but did not receive the kind of service we need,” Clarke said. “There was a moment when (Gabriel) Martinelli needed to play with him but waited too.

“Those connections will improve. It was a nice step by Merino and (Gyokeres) hit her from the rather magnificent angle.

“People will say they have not contributed to his debut but I have seen the right signs that he will do well. It is unfortunate that Gyokeres has not been able to play with Odegaard (as a result of replacements), because he is always looking for those wise steps.”

Arteta repeated Clarke’s thoughts. “Every day in training, I think it’s having a really good sensation,” he said.

“He is receiving connections, which is really important with players who will help him enter the positions he needs to enter.”

Arsenal vs Villarreal result “pain”

Arsenal have now lost twice in six days after their 1-0 defeat to Tottenham in Hong Kong last Thursday, with the Villarreal scoring early goals through Nicolas Pepe and Karl Eta Eyong.

Christian Norgaard walked in his first Arsenal goal but Arnaut Danjuma’s second half at rest meant that Odegaard’s sentence was not redeemed.

“The result is painful,” Rued Arteta, which was “very happy” with “many things”. “(Villarreal) were super efficient but we were naive – especially the way we defended in open spaces.

“That’s something, especially with the way we play, we have to absolutely. We were not good for that department and worth the game, for sure.”
