Beterbiev’s fight with Deon Nicholson on Benavidez-Yarde card on November 7

Artur Beterbiev is fighting on the David Benavidez vs Anthony Yarde Undercard against Deon Nicholson (22-1, 8 Kos) in the night of the champions “in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.

Beterbiev’s Undercard’s return

Beterbiev (21-1, 20 Kos) wanted to fight Dmitry Bivol in a trilogy, but this is not happening at this time. Choosing Alabama Nicholson, 34, is a substitute choice below it.

Nicholson has one loss on his beginning, a third round knockout against the Nigerian ephetessa apochi in April 2021. It is impossible to know whether or not Nicholson improved because his opposition was so poor. He won his last eight fights, beating five of them.

We do not know why Artur and his team agreed with this type instead of one of the talented contenders. Higher-level contenders were likely to expect a lot of money to fight the former lightweight champion, Beterbiev, 40, due to the high risk involved.

Beterbiev suffered the first defeat of his career earlier this year on February 22, losing a 12-round majority decision for Bivol in Riyadh. Although Bivol seemed very well in the bands, Beterbiev dominated him early with pressure and had him in bad problems on the 12th. The fight had to be scored by a draw, but the judges went with the Bivol promoted by Eddie Hearn.

The strange reality of beterbiev

For Beterebiev, it must be weird for him to fight on the undercard of Benavidez-Yarde instead of the main event. It shows how much a fighter can slip when suffering losses.

It is unknown which position will be the beterbiev-nichoslon fight on paper. In order to be buried under other fights, that would be a bitter pill for an artur to swallow. Not only did he lose a controversial decision in his last fight, but now his fighting is being placed near the bottom of the main paper.
