Liverpool goalkeeper Alisson has called on his teammates to “create our own history” as they push for the Premier League title in their debut season under manager Arne Slot.
The Reds are currently six points off the top of the table, with a game in hand on second-placed Arsenal.
Alisson, who played a key role in Liverpool’s campaign to win the 2019-20 Premier League under Jurgen Klopp, reflected on the achievement that ended the club’s 30-year title drought.
“That team was really special,” Alisson said. “We achieved great things. It was the first Premier title in a long, long time.
“We got (won) the Champions League together also the previous season. There is no comparison with the two situations.
“What makes me happy is this group of players – we have the quality to do something special. The most important thing is the commitment it takes to win something there.”

Alisson is one of nine players in the current squad who were also part of the 2019-20 title-winning season.
Other returning players include Trent Alexander-Arnold, Virgil van Dijk, Joe Gomez, Andrew Robertson, Caoimhin Kelleher, Harvey Elliott, Curtis Jones, and Mohamed Salah.
However, Liverpool’s squad has evolved significantly since then, with new signings such as Ryan Gravenberch, Dominik Szoboszlai, Alexis Mac Allister, Luis Díaz, Darwin Núñez, and Cody Gakpo adding new energy to the team.
Under Slot’s guidance, the team also adopted a new tactical identity.
“I don’t think it’s too similar (to our style under Klopp),” Alisson added.
“A few players still play in the team but we have a slightly different style, more possession of the ball. Before it was really simple, a lot of transition, a lot of intensity.”
Slot, who joined Liverpool from Feyenoord in the summer, has introduced a more possession-based approach, moving away somewhat from the high-intensity transitions that characterized Klopp’s tenure.
This new tactical framework helped Liverpool dominate the games and maintain their position at the top of the table.
The Reds now face an important test as they prepare to visit West Ham on Sunday, aiming to extend their current lead.
Reflecting on the team’s progress, Alisson emphasized the need to focus on writing their own success story rather than drawing comparisons with past squads.
“We don’t have to compare ourselves to teams in the past,” Alisson said. “We have to create our own history this season, this group.”
