The chiefs smooth the giants for their first win of the season

Kansas City chiefs surpassed New York giants for a 22-9 victory, the first of the AFC 2025 championship game. With that victory, KC moves into a three-way connection for second place in the West AFC.

The Quarterback of the Giants Russell Wilson was an awful tonight, with two interceptions and only 160 passing yards. Meanwhile, Patrick Mahomes hit 224 yards and TD.

The first promising drive for the giants ended up. Even if they caught 41 yards, they failed to convert 4 and 3, leading to a deep turnover in the territory of Kansas City. 33 out of New York’s 41 yards came to the ground.

The chiefs were far more fortunate than the giants in their first possession. After receiving the ball on New York 36, KC kicker Harrison Butker put a 54-yard goal out of the stand and from behind the goalposts for a 3-0 advantage.

The G-Men could not hold the offensive clinic made last weekend. They opened the game with sales revenue and a point with 58 total yards of offense in the first quarter of the game.

Kansas City Quarterback Patrick Mahomes looked like the old version of himself. While leaving and avoiding the passing of the pass, he found Juju Smith-Schuster open to 27 yards, which brought the heads to the territory of the enemy. However, an illegal formation penalty set aside the drive and forced KC to go to another goal to extend the advantage to 6-0.

The first big mistake of the evening came in the second quarter. Russell Wilson hit an interception that appeared to be intended for the cornerback of Chris Roland-Wallace Chiefs instead of Wan’dale Robinson’s ear. That intake, the second of Roland-Wallace’s career, was returned 23 yards for the New York pitch.

Kansas City couldn’t do anything happening with a good field position. After getting 25 yards, the chiefs had to stand for a 40-yard goal attempt that Harrison Butker failed. Despite making 69 out of 75 goals on the pitch from 2023 to 2024 in the regular season and combined playoffs, Butker has already missed two of seven goals on the pitch this season.

The giants finally climbed to the board thanks to some Russell Wilson passes and KC penalties. At 3 and 8, Wilson connected with a Rookie who runs Cam Skattebo for 16 yards. Following the back-to-back flags on the heads, Skattebo worked his way in the end area for a 13-yard touchdown run. Unfortunately for the G-Men, the extra point attempt was blocked, so the score was tied 6-6 by just under two minutes to go in the second quarter.

Big Blue made another big mistake in the form of turnover. Even though they started driving their next on the Kansas City pitch, they couldn’t get any points on that series. Russell Wilson dropped his second interception of the night, killing possession he could have given the giants the advantage. Two plays after the interception, the fans of the giants could be heard chanting “We Want Dart”, with reference to the quarterback of the second cord Rookie Jaxson Dart, which New York took in the first round of the NFL 2025 draft.

The chiefs hit once again before the break. Patrick Mahomes set up a ball, leading to a 52-yard defensive interference penalty with seven seconds remaining in the second quarter. KC could not find the final area from the 11th New York yard line, so they took the goal on the pitch and a 9-6 lead at rest.

Kansas City came out of the hot red break. They orchestrates a driving of ten games, a 74 yard ended with a five-yard touchdown by Patrick Mahomes for Wideout Tyquan Thornton, who gave the heads a 16-6 lead to start the fourth quarter. This is Thornton’s second TD in his last two games, which matches the total of the touchdown he receives from the first three years of his career.

In front of a ten-point deficit in the final frame, the giants had no choice but to go for it at 4 and 6 close to midfield. Although Russell Wilson went on to continue, the chiefs were penalized for defensive step interference, which gave New York a new set of Downs. Later, during the same drive, the giants gave a target from the Kansas City sixth line to reduce the advantage to 16-9 by 10:12 to go into the game.

The chiefs had no problem answering the call on their next possession. Tyquan Thornton recorded two catches on that drive for 54 yards. His 33-yard reception surpassed KC for one yard line. In the very next play, a run back to Kareem Hunt punched the landing, bringing the score to 22-9 late in the fourth quarter after an extra point lost.

The giants did not make it easy for the heads. New York caught 26 yards on the 4th and 5th to get the ball in the red area. But after dropping to the fourth yard line, Russell Wilson was penalized for an intentional ground and eventually dropped back-to-back, which resulted in turnover on downs, and a victory for the chiefs.

With defeat, the giants fell to 0-3 for the first time in four years. Since the beginning of last season, Big Blue has won only one game in the last ten contests at Metlife Stadium.
