Dozens of people are trapped after a massive cloud triggered lightning floods in the northern Indian state of Uzarakhand.
The rescue crews, including army staff, are on their way to the village of Dharalli in the Ukukashi neighborhood, which is believed to have carried the weight of the floods.
Videos, shared online, show a giant wave of water that flows through the area immersing buildings along the path. A tourist site, Dharalli, is inhabited by hotels and restaurants.
“I was informed of an incident at CloudBurst in Dharalli from Sudarashi. We are working to save people,” Chief Minister Pushkar Singh ladies told local media.
Prachant Arya, the Sudarashi District Magistrate, says communication was unstable due to poor connectivity in the area.
“As this is a populated area with many restaurants and hotels, we sent rescue teams to the site,” he said.
