The Women’s Middle Order Batter Veda Krishnamurthy has announced its retirement from all forms of cricket, which draws curtains on a remarkable career spread over a decade, on Friday, July 25th. In her emotional retirement post, she gave a new role in giving back the game.
Veda Krishnamurthy, who was known for her fearless spirit and fighting, represented India in 48 Odis and 76 T20s and played a major role in some of India’s most iconic victories, including the 2017 Women’s World Cup campaign, where India ended up as runners-up.

From the small city of Kadur in Karnataka, Veda rose from the ranks with pure determination and love for the game. Veda caught Karnataka and trains in the domestic cricket. Both teams played a big part in shaping her career.

In her long retirement later on social media, she also mentioned how her time with train lines helped her grow immensely. The cricketer also thanked her family, especially her sister’s sister, for being her constant support system. She also expressed her gratitude to her coaches, mentors and teammates, calling them an essential part of her cricketing life.
Veda acknowledged the BCCI, the KSCA, the trains, and the Kioc for giving its platforms to showcase its skills and grow as a cricketer. When she announced her retirement, Veda wrote on Instagram: “A little city girl with great dreams. From the quiet lanes of Kadur to the Jersey clothing of India with pride. This game gave me everything: joy, purpose, and family.
She continued to add, “With my family, his teammates, coaches, friends, and every supporter behind the scenes, thank you. And to the fans, your love, even from afar, meant more than you never know. Ready to give back to the game that gave me a life.
Krishnamurthy’s Veda career in numbers
Notably, Veda also played four games in the Women’s Premier League (WPL) and scored 22 runs. She also played nine women’s Bash League (WBBL) games for Hurrican Hobart and scored 144 runs.

In the Odi cricket, she scored 829 runs from 49 innings, which included eight fifty. She made an impressive start with half a century on the debut against England in Derby back in 2012. Among all her knocks, her 70 balls only from 45 balls against New Zealand in the 2017 World Cup was the most memorable.
Its impressive innings helped India’s women qualify for the semi-finals of the league. Later that year, Veda got another important step by becoming one of the few Indian women to play in the Bash Bash League (WBL) after signing with Hurrican Hobart. In the T20 Internationals, Veda scored 875 runs in 63 innings and had two fifty for her name.
